 August 18, 2022

By  Mostak Hossain

Talking about the best screenwriting software is not about only calling names and mentioning their functions. It’s more than that, and it’s different from other kinds of software. These toolkits can massively boost the creative thinking process.

In this 20’s market, There are many screenwriting software tools for writing scripts. Some of it is amazing, and some are terrible. But that’s part of the fun for me – I’ve explored all the available options.

Alongside my experiences and opinions, I’ve ranked the software list with the help of some professional screenwriters’ and directors’ views. This comprehensive guide will help you pick the best screenwriting software for your needs based on Features, User experience, and Pricing in 2022. Each of the software comes with its features and benefits.

My Methodology for selecting the best Screenwriting Software

Each script writing software has its own array of features and benefits that I discovered after exploring many options. But as a professional, you need to focus on essential factors. You must choose a dedicated fictional writing software. I followed these parameters to rank my list.

Is there any free access to check out their features?

I always appreciate free thinking; It makes your decision yours. And I think a free version (trial) is a must-needed feature for paid software. Because with this free screenwriting software, you can get ideas and check if this software is suitable for your project.

Cross-platform check

Please check the capabilities of the supporting file format. The cross-platform support system will help you to move on to different software flawlessly without losing your previous writing work.

Payment Model

Checking the payment model is essential. Remember to check all the terms and conditions before any money transaction. Because some companies sell based on subscription plans, and some are a one-time payment. Choose which one is suitable for your pocket. 😉

UI/UX (User Experience) of the software

User interface and user experience are crucial factors for any software. Because the user needs features but not in a messy UX (user experience). And talking about screenwriting tool, it’s a vital part. Because sometimes, a professional writers needs a distraction-free page to write. And occasionally needs advanced features like, different boards, cards & colors can help to brainstorm and format the characters, acts, scenes, etc. I’ll examine this with my UI/UX design experience.

You may need multiple editors to work on different acts/scenes in a long script. At that time, the “Real time collaboration” feature will save time. But there’s some gray area; some software offers limited collaboration, some can’t sync in real-time, and some don’t support collaboration features. Don’t worry, through this writing. I’ll guide you about this.

What is the best Screenwriting Software?

There’s no easy answer to this question since there are a lot of different screenwriting software programs out there, and what might be the best for one person might not be the best for another. It really depends on your individual needs and preferences. However, I had compressed it down with the best contenders. All the programs I’m going to explore depend on previous parameters. So, this article is a definite guide for creative writers who want to find the best screenwriting software to fill their needs.

Fade In Review

Fade In is a great option if you’re looking for comprehensive screenwriting software to help you write your next screenplay. It has everything you need to get started from basic features to cloud based software support. However, It comes with a lower price tag. And the features & tools it offers are worth the price of severe screenwriters. It also offers a free version.

Reason to pick Fade In

Fade In is a newer screenwriting software program that’s been gaining popularity in recent years. It’s very user-friendly and has many best screenwriting features, including storyboarding tools and the ability to collaborate with other writers online.

Fade In has all the funtionalitis you expect from professional screenwriting software, but the price tag is the best. Fade In is only $79.99 for the Pro version, which includes a year of free updates. That’s an unbeatable price for top-of-the-line screenwriting software. This also offers free screenwriting software to test their product.

Other screenwriting software can cost hundreds or more than hundreds of dollars, so Fade In’s price tag is a real bargain. And if you’re not satisfied with Fade In, you can get a full refund within 30 days. So there’s no risk in trying Fade In.

User Experience of Fade In

The user interface of Fade In Screenwriting software is essential and user-friendly. It is easy to find what you are looking for, and the buttons are self-explanatory.

The main window is divided into four sections: the toolbar, the project tree, the script editor, and the status bar.

The toolbar contains all the essential functions for writing a script, such as creating new characters or locations, adding notes, and printing or exporting your work.

The project tree shows your script’s elements in a hierarchical structure. You can easily navigate between scenes, chapters, and other parts of your screenplay by clicking on the appropriate item in the tree.

The script editor is where you actually write your screenplay. To make writing efficient, it auto-completes character names and automates dialogue format. The status bar shows information about the currently open file (page number, the character count, and word count).

But the UX (User Experience) may fall behind.

Let me be clear; there are a few things that I don’t personally like. First of all, it can be a bit slow at times. Secondly, the font size cannot be changed, which can be annoying when trying to read long passages of text.

But It may not be a problem for another user. The software is also constantly updated with new features and improvements, which is excellent.

Overall though, I think the positives outweigh the negatives when it comes to the UI of Fade In.

Overall, the user interface of Fade In is very well designed and practical. Even if you’ve never written one before, you’ll be able to get started quickly and easily with Fade In. Highly recommend! What do you think of the user interface of Fade In? Let me know in the comments below!
